Dominion Convention 2026: In Their Own Words — Douglas Chow

Continuing our “In Their Own Words” series from the 50th Dominion Convention in Winnipeg, Branch 44 delegate Douglas Chow shares his reflections on the experience he and fellow delegate Tong Chow had representing Branch 44 at this historic Convention.

We found the 50th Dominion Convention to be a very educational experience and appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand how resolutions and bylaws are passed, how elections are conducted, and the democratic process of the Legion at work. With the Legion celebrating its 100th anniversary, it was also special to hear from guests including the grandson of Douglas Haig and a representative from the Royal British Legion Scotland.

We also gained a greater appreciation for the pride Veterans have in their service and the significance of the various ribbons they wear. We were particularly impressed by the professionalism of the young cadets who accompanied us and “looked after us” during the parade.

We were very happy to have been selected to represent Branch 44 at this historic Convention and came away feeling that all members of our Branch Executive could benefit from the opportunity to attend a Convention and experience the work of the Legion at the national level.
