Dominion Convention 2026: In Their Own Words — Heddy Bing

As part of our coverage of the 50th Dominion Convention in Winnipeg, we’re sharing the experiences of our Branch 44 representatives in their own words. We begin with Branch 44 President Heddy Bing and her reflections on a busy, emotional and memorable Convention during The Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th year.

I’ve just returned from Winnipeg after attending the 50th Dominion Convention, and what an experience it was to be there as the Royal Canadian Legion celebrated its 100th year.

It’s not all fun and games at these Conventions — there is a whole lot of work! Our days began at 8:30am and were filled with back-to-back speakers, elections, caucuses, debates and meetings, often continuing until 5pm. There were also many emotional and inspiring moments that reminded us just how important the work of the Legion continues to be across Canada. I was incredibly proud of our Branch 44 delegates, Douglas Chow, Tong Chow and Lizz Lindsay, who attended every session and represented our Branch wonderfully.

One particularly special moment was bringing home a certificate recognizing Branch 44’s 100 years of Legion service. It is remarkable to think of all the members who have contributed to our Branch over the past century, and we are proud to carry their legacy forward for generations to come.

Congratulations to our own Valerie MacGregor on being re-elected as one of three Dominion Vice-Presidents. We are very proud to have Val representing Branch 44 and wish her every success in her role. I was also pleased to attend the National TVS meeting, where a new slate of officers was elected. Congratulations to President Dawn Adams from Calgary, 1st Vice-President Patti Paul from Saskatoon, 2nd Vice-President Glenn Hodge from Trail — who is also a dual member of our Branch — and Secretary-Treasurer Marguerite Wolfe from Saskatoon. We wish them all well in their new positions.

The Convention Banquet was outstanding, with a wonderful meal and entertainment. I also had the opportunity to reconnect with my longtime friend Jill McKnight, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and her team from Ottawa. It was lovely to see her again. It was a busy, emotional and memorable Convention, and I came home very proud of the work we are doing nationally and grateful to have represented Branch 44 during such an important year for the Legion.
